I've been clever

























































































I spent the weekend making a sleeve for an iPad.

Yup we own one of those gadgets. Currently I can say that they serve well as an alarm clock, radio, gaming platform, navigator, and iView/news veiwer. Apparently we needed a new one of each of them.

All good, I'm actually quite impressed with the gadget.

We went shopping for a cover for it and decided that they were either ugly or expensive and the question was posed of 'You could make one couldn't you?' ... 'Sure...' I replied and the idea sort of began to bubble away.

It emerged over the weekend to become the piece above :) and I'm quite happy with it. It is lined in flannel and is just a simple slip cover.

The darker blue represents a small pond, the pebbles the pond edging, the greens different reeds (if you look carefully, I've tried to quilt one a bit bambooish) and the deep gold is a ray of sunlight glancing down into the pond. It is supposed to have a little dragon fly on it too; I've got to get some interfacing to stick it on with to make the applique bit of the job easier.

I watch Insiders most Sunday mornings and generally speaking find it a easily consumed form of political commentary. This week left me shaking my head a little for they decided that they'd do a summary of the months polls. Now this activity I don't actually have a problem with but the way it was introduced and spoken about, that I did have a problem with. Before I launch into it, my issue was with the flipancy with which it was done. If it was worth investigating and discussing then do it properly. The end result really told me nothing. I've been working on a small quilt for a relative. These images are from early on when I was making the applique shapes. I'll put up a finished version ... when it is finished ... sigh ... good at starting projects, finishing ... maybe by admitting here that I'm working on the project will help me finish it. These have all been 'glued' onto the backing fabric and most of them now sewn on.

So ... how strong are our convictions?

The Australian Budget has been handed down, the squirrels have had time to do their diggings and the first advertisements have started turning up on our television screens. The wash out left me wondering how strong the convictions of our electorate? Two payments stood out for me. The first is attached to the Mining Tax Policies - the taxation imposed on mining companies to redistribute their 'super profits' (apparently). Titled the Benefits of the Boom Package, families entitled to the Family Tax Benefits Part A will receive: Families receiving the maximum rate or part of the maximum rate of FTB Part A with two or more children will receive an extra $600 a year, or an extra $300 a year if they have one child. Families receiving the base rate of FTB Part A with two or more children will receive an extra $200 a year, or an extra $100 a year if they have one child.
