Another oddity

I went to post the family Christmas presents off on Monday and discovered that perfume is counted as a flammable substance (which, granted it is). I didn't have any in my parcels but it did come up on the list of 'Do your parcels contain any of the following...?' along with the caution that it was a criminal offense to put them in the mail whether it is going surface or air mail. Fair call .... so I thought until I opened my email this morning with an offer from a particular online store I use occasionally. The offer .... 'Send the sexiest perfume this Christmas'. hmm ... if I were to purchase this product how would it get to me? Funny I should ask this question ... well ... by mail actually ... and air mail at that. The only conclusion I can come up with is that perfume is only flammable when a person mails it not when a company does.

Being a bit political

There is a bit of a debate going on here about the nature of marriage ... one 'letter to the editor' stated that marriage was primarily about providing a social institution for having kids. Darn ... I have two objections there ... Firstly ... it seems to suggest that you have to get married to become fertile and ... secondly ... it makes a fairly insulting comment about the nature of the relationship between the two people. According to the author you basically only get married so you can have kids. I've always had what apparently is a fairly romantic notion then that you marry someone because you love them and wish to spend your life together in a way that goes beyond being 'just friends'. That life could include kids but to say that you marry so that you can have kids and provide the only suitable way of raising kids is to ignore the diversity of family structures around the world that seem to function quite well in their diverse ways. Darn ... maybe I missed some...

The things you see...

I saw a truck today. I really hoped that it did not tip on me while going around the corner. It was carrying a load of porta-loos. Ewwww ... could you imagine the mess and smell? Actually, do yourself a favour; don't go there!

It makes no sense

Image
It makes no sense when ... You fall asleep in front of the tellie for half an hour then crawl into bed and then not be able to sleep. The radar beam of moonlight might explain it ... A completely random picture showing the pretty sparkles of light cast by my crystal birds when the sun drops onto them.

I've been clever

Image
I spent the weekend making a sleeve for an iPad. Yup we own one of those gadgets. Currently I can say that they serve well as an alarm clock, radio, gaming platform, navigator, and iView/news veiwer. Apparently we needed a new one of each of them. All good, I'm actually quite impressed with the gadget. We went shopping for a cover for it and decided that they were either ugly or expensive and the question was posed of 'You could make one couldn't you?' ... 'Sure...' I replied and the idea sort of began to bubble away. It emerged over the weekend to become the piece above :) and I'm quite happy with it. It is lined in flannel and is just a simple slip cover. The darker blue represents a small pond, the pebbles the pond edging, the greens different reeds (if you look carefully, I've tried to quilt one a bit bambooish) and the deep gold is a ray of sunlight glancing down into the pond. It is supposed to have a little dragon fly on it too; I've got to ge...

Contradictions

I find contradictory things curious. The latest was sitting at the traffic lights just up the road from home when I looked at the side of the truck next to me ... it read ... Rail Transport ... I'm still not sure how that worked as I was on a road at the time ... well I hope I was ... If not; I was very, very lost. Maybe they are really opposites rather than contradictions. I went for a bit of a tootle on the bike about a month and a half ago and ended up, yup again, stationary at a set of traffic lights surrounded by B-doubles and feeling ... well really really small. I've not yet over come the instinct to look around and catch glimpses of me and my bike in the shiney bits of trucks (like their fuel tanks) as she is still only new and my looking around and glances up at the rather large B-Double that pulled up next to me (the mental thought at the time was 'you just stay there mate') when the driver leaned on the window and called down to me 'rather pleased with he...

Static Overdrive

Static ... because my lazyboy armchair I swear indents and moulds to my laziness and overdrive ... well anything you do too much of could be described as being done in overdrive thus ... I sit on the couch too much ... hence ... static overdrive. hmmm trying to hard to be clever?
