Chain texts and emails
So explain this to me ...
Why did I get woken up at 6:40 am today by one of those chain text messages?
Not only that, but it was so long that it came through on my phone as three messages, so not only did I get woken up early but then my phone kept beeping at me until such time as it had all come in despite my best efforts in my sleepy state to find the off button.
What really intrigues me is that I rarely get chain emails and texts from people who I have regular chats to either in email form or over the phone. I only ever get them from people who I've had little to do with for the better part of a decade other than to get the occasional random mass send out that results when you press the 'send to absolutely everyone in my contacts list even those I can't remember who they are' button. Yet these messages always seek to assure me that I am a most special and treasured friend of theirs. Such a special friend that the only messages I get from them are impersonal ones that are telling me that if I text someone in the next 24 hours telling them how special they are then I'll get a guardian angel protecting me. mm at 6:40 am I'm not particularly interested ... really ... I'm not. I'm not even going to try to get my head around the idea that not only have you not been interested enough in maintaining a relationship that you've not picked up the phone or sent me a personal text or even written a personal letter or email, but I've also been ambivalent enough to live in the same level of ambivalence.
I'm not good on the long distance relationship stuff but when I do, I'd like to think that I try and look after my friends a little better.
Being mass send out things, I do sometimes wonder how many end up on the emails or text message services of all those businesses we have sitting in our phones and email contacts.
